The capital of the country is the city of Port Morsby. As a former British colony, Papua New Guinea enters the Commonwealth of Nations. The formal ruler of the country is the English Queen, the internal management is carried out by the Governor-General and the Parliament.

Throughout the colonial period, Papua-New Guinea has several times passed from one European state to another. After gaining independence in 1975, the country got its current name.

Papua-New Guinea is located in the zone of a wet tropical climate, in the internal mountain regions of the Islands, the climate becomes colder. The nature of these lands is extremely diverse: numerous tropical plants grow here, exotic animals live. Places are suitable for cultivating sugarcane, coconut, bananas and other crops.

On the territory of the state there are rich deposits of minerals – gold, copper, silver, nickel and other metals, as well as oil, gas and raw materials for the production of cement.

The population of the islands consists of representatives of various ethnic groups – Polynesians, Melanesians, Papuans and other nationalities.
