Mosaic as an alternative or an addition to traditional tiles

Mosaic as an alternative or an addition to traditional tiles

The decor made of hand -covered glass has been used since ancient times, but for obvious reasons was not available. Today, the production of cast pieces of glass designed to decorate various surfaces is put on a wide industrial stream and has become a great addition to the tile.

Another pleasant circumstance speaks in favor of the mosaic – putting it is much easier and faster than tiles. Pieces of artificial smalt (mosaic glass) are glued to craft paper and go on sale in the form of squares 316×316 mm. Often everything you need – putty for leveling walls, glue and grout are sold complete with mosaics, which makes preparation for the repair even easier.

As in the case of tiles, the surface must be cleaned. With the help of a “grinder” equipped with an abrasive petal circle or manually, you need to remove the old wallpaper from the walls, a lagging putty, fat and dirt.

Next, you should thoroughly put all the cracks and treat the wall with a waterproof composition if the wall in the bathroom is decorated with smalt.

Experienced masters do without marking the walls, the same who is faced with this work for the first time, it is necessary to arm themselves with a roulette, a pencil and a long rail. The wall is drawn into squares corresponding to the sizes of mosaic segments.

Then it remains to prepare, following the instructions, glue and you can start laying mosaics.

You should measure your performance by sticking a few pieces. The fact is that the adhesive is applied both to modules with mosaic and wall. Glue begins to harden in 10-15 minutes, so it is important to evaluate what area of the wall you will have time to process during this time.

After processing the wall with the wall, apply it to the module and attach it to the prepared place. To ensure a dense and uniform fit, use manual foam press. After half an hour or a little later, the finished surface must be moistened with a sponge, remove the craft paper, and remove the excess glue with a soft rag.

In a couple of hours you can start grouting. The gaps between the pieces of the smalt are filled with special mastic. Excess should be removed immediately, and the remains must be washed away in a day.

Such a mosaic can be completely covered with the walls from floor to ceiling, or you can make a mosaic panel above the bathroom. Mosaic, collected from pieces of pearl-white and golden tones in the company with a white closed bathroom, looks especially elegant.

This type of decor is available to many, but it is difficult to call it completely budgetary.
