Some Los Angeles hotels are famous far beyond the city, including the historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.
Located on Hollywood Boulevard, it is famous for hosting the first ever Academy Awards ceremony in 1929. Only 270 people attended the ceremony, and the film Wings, starring Gary Cooper and Clara Bow, was named “best film.” The luxury hotel was named after the President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt, and the history of its construction is very interesting.
It was built with private donations from famous Hollywood residents, including Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, and Louis B. Mayer. It is estimated that the construction of the 12-story hotel required an investment of $2.5 million. The hotel opened in May 1927, and its last major renovation took place in 2005. Today, the historic Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel is incredibly popular with young travelers, thanks to the Teddy nightclub located on its first floor. The hotel also attracts fans of paranormal phenomena. According to one legend, the ghost of Marilyn Monroe lives within its walls, and is often seen in the corridors by guests and hotel staff.
