These lands preserved the first structures of European civilization in the New World. Santo Domingo, the capital of the region, holds on its territory many attractions of the Dominican Republic. In-way, this is the architecture of the beginning of 16 in., which dominates the central part of the city. There is also a mausoleum with the remains of Columbus – the discoverer of most islands of the Caribbean Sea. Once the Dominicanist was a stronghold for Christianity, a starting point for missionaries going to America. That is why, here, perhaps, the largest number of churches among all the islands – former colonies. The Dominican Museum, as well as the colonial museum and many other museums contain material and documentary sights of the Dominican Republic, including what is raised from the bottom of the sea, from the sunken Spanish Galeons. Exotic places such as the Tabaca Museum, the Amber Museum and the Museum of the winery, which are located on the southeastern and northern coast, respectively, are interesting to visit. Here, in the northern part, the ruins of the Columbus house, as well as many architectural buildings remaining since the time of colonization, have been preserved.
